An antique wax seal with a turned wooden handle, built up from alternating strips of pale and dark wood in a striped, barber-pole pattern. The stripes sweep cleanly along the swell of the baluster and the flared knop above, warm and softly polished from years of handling. The small brass matrix is engraved with the letter G, ready to press its mark into wax. A lovely object for a writing desk, whether kept for the form alone or set out among letters and old books.
