A handsome Napoleon III glove box in richly figured burl wood, the lid inlaid with a Greek-key marquetry border, fine brass stringing, and a pierced brass cartouche at the center set with a small mother-of-pearl inlay. The long, narrow form is the traditional shape made to hold a lady's gloves, and it opens to a polished wood interior in a warm reddish tone. A refined object from the French 19th century, equally at home holding gloves, jewelry, letters, or trinkets today. Doesn't come with key.
Lovely on a vanity or dressing table, a writing desk, or a shelf among books and small treasures.
