The view looks across the square toward the Tuileries Palace and its domed pavilion, with a flag flying above. In the foreground, the famous rearing Marly horses stand on their pedestals at the entrance to the Champs-Élysées. Mounted cavalry in blue coats and red saddlecloths fill the front ranks, rows of infantry stand behind them, and an altar rises on a stepped platform at the center of the square. The print was engraved by Dubois and published in Paris on the rue Saint-Jacques, the historic heart of the city’s print trade. It is presented in an antique gilt frame with trailing flowers and leaves, with a modern mat.
