The glaze has a fine crazing that catches the light, and a few stray drops of yellow landed on the lower body during firing. Two small loop handles sit at the shoulder, and the mouth finishes in a rolled rim above shallow turned rings. Pots like these held duck and goose confit preserved under a layer of fat. Only the top half and the interior were glazed, to keep the fat from soaking into the clay. The contrast of bright yellow against the darkened clay gives it real warmth. It is lovely on a kitchen counter holding utensils, on a shelf, or on a console with a few branches.

Origin: Southwest France

Age: 19th century

Material: Earthenware with yellow lead glaze

Details: Glazed upper body and interior, two loop handles, rolled rim, turned rings at the shoulder, unglazed foot

Dimensions: 5.5" mouth diameter × 8.5"H

Condition: Good antique condition with crazing to the glaze throughout.
